‘Gusto-y’ choir lead carol service

A packed St Mary’s Church enjoyed the traditional candle-lit carol service of hymns and readings from the gospels telling the Christmas story.

The service on Friday night (22 December) was taken by Rev David Hagan-Palmer who, with organist Mathew Martin, led the congregation in the singing supported by the choir from Aylsham High School’s Blue Notes, conducted by Claire Lawrence. Children were asked to light the four candles on the Advent wreath which represents the four weeks of Advent.

The lessons were read by villagers including Tim and Janie Elwes, Frank Hurrell, Nigel Grix, and two youngsters, 12-year-old Grace Hickling and Iona Cooper, aged 16.

After the Blessing, Rev Hagan-Palmer thanked all those who helped organise the service and – with the congregation – applauded the choir for their “gusto-y” performance. This was followed by mince pies and mulled wine prepared and served by villagers.
