Major improvement work to make the Reading Room brighter and more accessible will start in January.
The committee agreed that the 20-year-old building required modernisation and some improvements for older users to encourage more regular usage.
The biggest change will be at the rear which will be opened up by installing large bifold doors to make the room brighter with open views to the meadows, and redecorated.
The bar will be moved to make the access into the kitchen wider and easier, and handrails will be installed outside.
The existing shed will be moved and the disabled car space rotated. The building will be closed on January 10, 17 and 24.
