These boots are made for drawing

The inaugural meeting of the Burgh Art Club got off to a sparkling start with a ‘Welcome’ glass of fizz donated by Joyce Rochester as 13 people gathered in the Reading Room to share a drawing experience.

Deep concentration as would-be artists draw the boots.

Starting with a classical subject, everyone focused on a pair of boots as the core method of close observational drawing. After a few initial quick-draw exercises, a longer, more detailed study was undertaken. For 90 minutes, the silence in the room was evidence of the deep concentration necessary for creativity.

At the end of the session, the drawings were displayed and came under scrutiny for all to discuss the merits of the artwork.

The subject of the next meeting on Wednesday 17 October will be St Mary’s Church, in Burgh.

Meetings are held every fortnight and a charge of £1 per person will go towards costs of hiring the room, heating, lighting etc. Contact Yvonne Stewart  for more information.
