Hurrah! On the ball . . . Burgh

It was an exciting and close game and, at times, the refs had a job on their hands in this warm-up for the football World Cup.
And, as ever, England nearly won. But then the (Alternative) World Cup Quiz at the Reading Room was only meant to be a fun evening that had almost nothing to do with football.
Seven teams took part in the quiz which was refereed by Sue and Jason Grant on Saturday, 2 June and raised £260 which will be donated to the Dementia Angels charity.
France won on the night – but only just – England second and Brazil (which was yellow-carded for not sharing their sweets) came third.
“It was great fun” said Sue. “We had rounds comprising of soccer players, all about balls, a movie round where each answer had a country in its title, for example, From Russia with Love , plus football dingbats.”
Each team/country contributed food from that country and wore the national colours and sat at flag-adorned tables.
“We ate ‘around the world buffet style’ – the food was amazing. A brilliant turn out and a big thank you to everyone for supporting such a good cause,” added Sue.
