A group of ladies from Burgh-next-Aylsham have been extra busy over Christmas knitting twiddlemuffs for people suffering from dementia.
These colourful and therapeutic items will be donated to North Walsham War Memorial hospital who will distribute them to the patients and sufferers in the community.
A twiddlemuff is a simple-to-make knitted band with interesting bits and bobs attached. Many patients with alzheimer’s, arthritis and dementia find them comforting and therapeutic as they help encourage movement and brain stimulation.
People with dementia tend to have routines and become agitated in a hospital ward or care home setting as they are out of their usual routine. Having a twifflemuff distracts sufferers and helps to soothe their anxiety.
